Do my cans look good?

A few weeks ago, I realized how badly we need to touch up the paint on our walls. There are scuff marks everywhere, pencil marks from hanging frames, just the random marks that everyone has. Except that we have never touched up the paint before, except in Charlie's room, so that's, what, seven years of scuff marks? Yes, yes it is.

Side note: I will always have to count how long we have lived in this house because it will always seem like we just moved in.

Back when the painters said, "Hey, we have extra paint," we told them to just hide the cans in the garage in a dark corner in the back of a closet. Once I got to the paint cans, I realized I had no idea if this paint was even still good to use. I know absolutely nothing about paint.

So, in a moment where I forget to use Google, I called Sherwin Williams. I assume that everyone knows what Serwin Williams is, but if you don't, in Nacogdoches, it's a small paint store on the main street. It's near the college, so I can tell you that young college-aged guys are going to work there at all times. Probably they will be handsome, handy and well mannered.

This is how that went:

Me: Hi. How do you know if paint is still good to use? We bought all of our paint there seven years ago. Can you tell me the names of the paints we bought?

Handsome Sherwin Williams College aged-guy (HSWCAG): Um... how many years ago?

Me: You know what, I can just load up my cans and bring them over. Can you tell me if my cans... of paint... are still good?

HSWCAG: Yes. I can definitely tell you if what you have is still good.

So I loaded up my cans and went to the Sherwin Williams store. Just for reference, I had ten cans of paint.

HSWCAG: Wow, that's a lot of paint.

Me: Yeah. Can you help me carry in my cans?

HSWCAG: Yes. Wow. These smell bad. You can tell these two cans are rotten. Want to smell it?

Me: No, thanks. Can you replace them with two new cans... of paint?

HSWCAG: Sure. Let me just shake up these other cans to see if they're still good.

Me: I really appreciate all of your help with my cans.

I still haven't touched up the paint. Maybe I'll do that later today. Did you know that cans... of paint... will stay good for a really long time if you store them inside? Like maybe twelve years.

I hope my cans are still good in twelve years.
