Happy to be in Hanalei

We spent the majority of the past two days hanging out at the beach in town and grabbing lunch with the parents. On Sunday, we took a brief hike up the Powerline Trail. It follows the, you guessed it, power lines and is 11 miles long. We were only out there for about an hour, but it was worth it for the view. Then it was back to the house for steaks with the family and star gazing on the beach with Pres. I’ve never seen so many stars, not even in Colorado. There is really nothing better than this.

I made breakfast this morning, breakfast burritos for Preston and Craig, scrambled eggs for mom and fresh tropical fruit salads for Alison and I. Apparently, even though I can't eat eggs, I can still make a mean breakfast burrito. There is great fruit here, papaya, mango, pineapples, apples, cherries, grapes, and dragon fruit... which we had never seen before. Preston googled how to eat it and prepared one for us. It is bright red on the inside and the texture is like a kiwi, but it is not sweet and doesn't really have a taste to it. They say it makes good mixed drinks... maybe we will try a dragon fruit martini... hmmm...

Will's favorite word in balloon so Preston and I bought him one at the store. He follows it around and says, "balloooo!"

Preston played golf with my dad at Princeville… it is a resort near us. It is mostly closed for renovations, but one of the two golf courses is open along with the clubhouse, gym and spa (did someone say spa?). Preston played this course last year and thought it was "gymicy" (not sure on that spelling, but I'm going with it) Hope he likes it better this time. My mom, Alison, Craig and I lounged on Anini Beach, right in front of our house, while Will napped. There is a hedge of bushes between our house and the beach, so we can't really see the sand. I've been imagining that that beach is a secluded area, but when we got out there, of couse there were other people. Not enough to call it crowded, but it was a surprise. I guess we should have known... there is a reef and it's a well known snorkel area. Lots of windsurfing and kite jumping. Might try some of that tomorrow.

Tonight, we are grilling fresh mahi mahi that we bought at the fish market today and roasting marshmallows in the fire pit... if we can manage to get a fire going!! We bought stuff to make smores… including organic dark chocolate without milk, and can you believe that marshmallows and graham crackers are “Katie-friendly” foods? They are! I already ate one of the chocolate bars. I haven't had one of those in so long... and it was gooood.

Tomorrow morning, the plan is to grab some kayaks in town and paddle into one of the three national wildlife refuges on the island. It is a calm river, kind of like the Comal, so my parents are coming along. AND it was Preston’s idea. We’ll see how it goes!!

I’m not sure when I’m going to get to all of the adventures I’ve planned… now that we are here, I just want to relax and be at the beach, and Preston doesn't seem to have any problems with that!

Will post pictures later, Pres has the camera at the golf course so he can capture images of his hole in one.
