A name for the middle

We picked the name Charlie early on, before we even knew he was a he. When we found out the sex, Preston had some reservations, so on the drive home from the ultrasound appointment, I told him he could make a list of names and I would write them down. I then told him I was going to call the list "Other Names for Charlie." After that, Charlie just kind of stuck. I think it felt like a suddenly final decision to him, and he likes to take a long time to make decisions.

When it came to picking the middle name, Preston ended up making a list of about five names that he liked. We thought about them all for a while, but one of them kept coming bak to us: Nathan. So every once in a while, I would randomly say to him, "Charlie Nathan." A few times, I sent it to him in a text message. And then one day, Preston said it out of the blue, and that's how we realized his middle name would be Nathan.
